between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.
Range Rover Velar 2017,
is sporty utility crossover which is quite close to the Range Rover sport in
Land Rover’s luxury line up.
Velar fills the space
between Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover sport and is built on the midsize
aluminum platform as of Jaguar’s
F-Pace crossover. Its pricing is starting at $49000,
though the price of top line first edition is $89300, quite high for a mid
range SUV.
Velar was star
attraction in Geneva Motor show 2017, mainly due to its resemblance to Jaguar
F-pace. Talking about its name, Velar in Italian generally means “to cover”. This
new five seater initially named as “EVOQUE- XL”, shares the IQ platform of
Jaguar’s F-Pace. The Velar figures to compete with the Porsche Macan and BMW X4
and will aim to appeal to a wide range of buyers.
PRICING
The Velar will enter
the market this summer with base Price $44830. Its range oscillates between the
Evoque and the Sport’s range and its closely related to
its sister car i.e. Jaguar F-pace.
INTERIOR
This next generation
range rover model ushers in a more high tech Land lover high tech interior
design. As it shares a lot of features with its sister car F-Pace, but unlike
F-pace it is an all wheel drive and comes with land rover’s off road technology
including terrain response.
The main attractive
feature in the Velar’s interior is its Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with
two 10 inch touch screens. Velar steps into modernity by introducing Terrain
response dial or button in it. The touch pro duo system has Intel quad core
processor, high speed 60 GB solid state drive and ultra fast Ethernet.
It also offers choice
of four audio systems. The most impressive of which is 1600W signature sound
system developed by Meridian.
Talking about the two
touch screens, from these you can easily access all the functions. From the
upper screen you can easily access features like navigation, phone and media by
pinching, zoom or even swipe operations.
The lower screen is for
less traveled paths such as climate control and terrain response. It is graphically
rewarding and easy to use by getting rid of buttons.
Other high-tech
features include touch pads on the steering wheel to control certain key
interior and driving functions and laser spotlights. The driver’s instrument
panel includes 5-inch screen which is digitized in a 12.3 inch digital screen
on SE grade and above. Velar is connected by a 4G Sim that offers location
services like finding a filing station, fuel prices and navigation that flags up
congestion.
It also offers
functions like wifi hot spot with which you can connect up to 8 devices.
This 4803 mm long Velar
has plenty of space for the passengers. Its boot capacity is 673 L and rear
seats split 40/20/40. There is plenty of head room and leg room in the back and
they are powered reclining rear seats.
The Velar is bigger
than BMW X4 and offers loads of interior space for passengers as well as the
luggage they are carrying. Due to this, the Land Rover is diverting the
attention of customers from BMW X4 and Mercedes
Benz GLC.
The textile of Land
Rover is 30% wool and 70% polyester blend thus preventing condensation caused
by 100% wool product. Due to the demand of leather of greater sustainability,
it offers trims and color schemes of premium textile one which removes all the
leather form the cabin.
The velar features a
torque vectoring by braking system which has double wish bone front and
integral link rear suspension. The air suspension provides a gamut of ride levels:
subterranean access mode, lowered highway cruising and two off roads heights. You
can control the measurement when driving up or down inclines with Hill Descent/
Gradient release control. Terrain response 2 will automate the selection of drive
trains for off road conditions such as wet grass, mud or sand.
One of the standard
first edition features is Configurable Dynamics. It allows for stiffer
suspension, improved throttle response and reduced assistance for the power
steering.
ENGINE
SPECS
Customers will be able
to choose from 6 engines, each driving through an 8 speed automatic gearbox.
The base level four cylinder ingenium diesel units are 2.0 L with 178 bhp and
237 bhp guises. The entry level petrol engine is 2 L ingenium unit with 247
bhp.
The V6 range toppers
are 296 bhp diesel and 375 bhp petrol engines. Among these engines, the
supercharged is the petrol V6, the non turbo engine with power ranging from
zero to 60 mph in 5.3 sec.
On the other hand, the
entry level diesel is the most efficient with CO2 emissions of 142g/km.
The Velar is most
likely to use a newly developed plug in system based on 295 bhp four cylinder
ingenium petrol engine. It is also entering the hybrid world by launching
electric drive module that will offer real world range of 20 to 30 miles on
battery power.
