Its Easter Monday, The 4 day long weekend after winter !! Know what it is and how to celebrate at PartsAvatar !!

After a long cold winter, the four day weekend of Easter Monday is coming!! Do you know why we celebrate Easter Monday? What do people do on this eve?? Well, if you don’t know, then keep on scrolling to know the answers-Brought to you by PartsAvatar Replacement Parts!

Multicoloured eggs, cute bunny rabbits are waiting this April! Easter Monday is a time to spend with your family and loved ones! Let us know about the Easter Monday and its significance in this article!

What is Easter Monday all about??
It has religious significance, because it is the day after Christians believe the messiah returned to earth. In Canada, Easter Monday is a Christian holiday that celebrates the death and resurrection of Jesus. It is believed that on Good Friday, Jesus was crucified and laid to rest in a tomb.

It was then discovered that Jesus had risen on Easter Sunday. So on religious accounts, it is the day when Jesus is believed to have returned to earth. It is believed that Jesus stayed for 40 days appearing to believers and giving ministry. He healed the sick and proved to doubters that he is son of God. According to Christians, he ascended to heaven after 40 days.

Do you know why we call it Easter? Easter is derived from word “Ostara” or “Eostre”, a pagan goddess of fertility. However, the holiday’s name is also said to have been derived from Pesach- the Hebrew name of Passover, a Jewish holiday.

It is also believed that the last supper took place during the specific part of Passover traditions.

The name “Easter Monday” varies from place to place. For instance, the day after Easter is also called Bright Monday, Wet Monday or Renewal Monday.
In Canada according to Employment standards act, it is a statutory holiday throughout all the Canada except British Columbia.

The Easter egg

Without Easter eggs there is no fun of Easter. But why do we engage in egg hunting games or moreover, do you know why eggs are seen as symbolic figure of Easter?
Well, Eggs symbolize new life, as Jesus began his new life after his resurrection on Easter Sunday and cracked eggs symbolize the cracked tomb. Eggs also recall the shape of the stone that rolled away on Easter Sunday from the tomb that held Jesus’ body.

Modern eastern celebrations revolve around eggs. They are painted in different patterns, rolled down the hill and eaten if they are of chocolate variety.

Celebrating Easter Monday in Canada!

Several Canadian Christians attend non secular services on Easter Monday. They mark their vacations with family gatherings, food, eggs hunts or exchanging chocolate eggs as gifts.
A less commonly practiced Christian belief is scented water. In past Churchgoers, would return from the church with holy water scented with perfume. They used to sprinkle that holy water on their pets, loved ones and throughout their home to lay good into these. “May you never wither” was often uttered during this event. Some Orthodox Church going families still engage in this tradition to purify their house and loved ones with holy water.

Feast is the most loved and common celebratory event among Canadians. Families get together and enjoy a large dinner in the company of their loved ones. Mashed Potatoes, gravy, turkey, ham, beets, carrots and stuffing can be commonly found in a traditional Easter Monday feast! Family members say graces before the meal.

Several craft shows, outdoor exhibitions and other family friendly activities are organized during Easter Monday. Local organizations, host pancake breakfast for every age group.

Easter egg hunt is a real pleasure for every age group. Many parks organize Easter egg hunt competition where adults hide painted eggs and children have fun in hunting these chocolate treats. Easter Monday celebrations may differ from country to country and culture to culture as the Bible does not recount what happened on Easter Monday. Let us see how every country celebrates Easter Monday.

Easter Monday in Australia
Easter Monday is seen as a public holiday in Australia. Sporting events like oak bank Easter racing carnival, Australian three peaks race in Tasmania and stawell gift in Victoria are popular among them.

Easter Monday in Hungary
Easter Monday is also known as Ducking Monday in Hungary because  Men visit women and ask for permission for sprinkling holy water by reciting Easter poem and they get eggs(chocolate mostly) in exchange.

Easter Monday in Ireland
In Ireland, Easter Monday is a day of remembrance for the men and women who sacrificed themselves in the Easter rising which began on Easter Monday 1916.

Easter Monday in UK
Easter Monday is a bank holiday in United Kingdom. It’s interesting to see that people in Leicestershire hold a bottle kicking match and hard pie scramble on this day.

Easter Monday in US
In US, Easter Monday is largely ignored and is not a federal holiday. Even so, some regions still celebrate it and it is a part of spring break of some states.

Have you ever heard about White House Easter egg roll? It is the most notable celebration of US that happens in white house and sponsored by the President. There are many fun activities like live music and cooking demonstrations by world class chefs held during this event.

The history of white house hosting egg roll goes back to 1870s when kids in Washington DC would take their Easter eggs to Capitol Hill to roll them. The congress soon passed the bill to outlaw egg rolling in the capitol.

After this some kids approached the then president Rutherford Hayes for a place to roll their Easter eggs. He issued an order that allowed egg rolling to take place on white house grounds.

Easter Monday in other parts of world
In Guyana, people fly kites on this day which is made on Holy Saturday, the Saturday before Easter.

People in Netherlands have festive breakfast and go for hiking on this day.

In Asian countries like Hong Kong, people hold special events of painting Easter eggs and Easter egg races.

Similarly in Portugal and Italy, people go on picnics.

So, Bottom line?? Well, whether you like to spend your Easter Monday in a traditional way or modern way, just create your own memorable event. PartsAvatar Auto Parts hope you find your own special way to have fun on this great day!!
